No shielding gas? No problem. In this video, I show how flux-core MIG welding can be a reliable backup or even your go-to welding method for garage restorations. Whether you’re patching rust on a classic fender or running beads on a frame rail, gasless welding gets the job done without the need for expensive gas cylinders.

💡 What Is Gasless MIG Welding?

Instead of using shielding gas, gasless MIG (flux-core) uses a wire with built-in flux. As the wire burns, it creates its own gas shield around the weld pool. No tanks, no hoses — just plug in and strike an arc.

🔥 Pros:

  • Budget-friendly — no gas tanks required
  • Great for outdoor work (wind won’t ruin your welds)
  • Simple, portable setup

⚠️ Cons:

  • More spatter and smoke
  • Welds are less visually clean
  • Fumes are stronger — always ventilate
