People always ask why bodywork costs so much, or why anyone would put countless hours into restoring an old truck. With my Chevy C10 project in the shop, I figured it’s the perfect time to give an update and show you exactly what’s been happening.

By the end, I’ll let you be the judge: is all this time, money, and effort worth it?

Where the C10 Stands Now

This truck has been an ongoing grind — literally. In the past few weeks, most of the focus has been on bodywork:

  • Sanding and blocking the panels to get them straight.

  • Grinding and welding spots that needed reinforcement.

  • Prep work that eats up hours but sets the stage for paint.

The reality is this: what most people see as a “paint job” is really just the last 10% of the process. The other 90% is in the prep, and that’s where the time and labor stack up.

The Reality of Bodywork

Time

Every dent, weld, and panel takes patience. You can’t rush blocking panels flat or laying down filler properly. A single door can take hours before it’s ready for primer.

Tools & Materials

From grinders and sanders to welding consumables, the tools and supplies aren’t cheap. You’re burning through sanding discs, body filler, primer, and more — all of which add to the bottom line.

Skill

Anyone can slap on paint, but making panels straight, gaps tight, and finishes smooth takes years of practice. That’s what separates a “backyard job” from a professional restoration.

Is It Worth It?

That’s the big question. From the outside, it’s easy to say: “Why spend thousands of dollars and months of work on an old truck?”

But when you step back and look at the bigger picture — the craftsmanship, the pride of bringing something back to life, the satisfaction of seeing that truck roll out straight and clean — it starts to make sense.

For me, every hour spent on this C10 adds value beyond money. It’s about keeping history alive, creating something unique, and doing it right.

But what about you? What do you think?
Would you put in this kind of time and investment on a classic truck — or do you think it’s too much for what you get out of it?

Follow the Build

This is just one step in the journey. I’ll keep sharing updates on the C10 as it comes together, so stick around if you want to see it go from bare panels to a finished classic.

Final Thoughts

Restoration isn’t just about money — it’s about passion, skill, and patience. Some people will always say it’s not worth it. Others can’t imagine life without a project in the shop.
