Introduction

This spray workflow is part of my Save Your Lungs series because great paintwork means nothing if you are breathing toxic air while you do it. Overspray, solvents, isocyanates and fine particles inside a booth hit your lungs every time you spray. You may not feel it today, but it adds up fast. What you see in the video is the exact technique I use in my own booth. Clean passes. Tight control. A smooth finish. And the entire process is built around a fresh air hood that keeps me safe while I work.

Why Air Safety Comes First

A charcoal mask gives you a false sense of protection. It helps a little, but it does not stop vapors or isocyanates floating in the booth. Once I switched to a full fresh air hood system everything changed. No headaches. No burning eyes. No tight chest. Just clean air and clean focus.

The Allegro Air Supplied Hood System

This is the setup I run every time I spray. It brings clean outdoor air straight to your hood so you never breathe what is inside the booth.

  • Clean outside air fed directly to the hood
  • No chemical smell or vapor irritation
  • No guessing if filters are saturated
  • Calm breathing that keeps your spray technique steady

Booth Airflow Really Matters

Your respirator protects you. Airflow protects the job. A clean booth reduces dust, controls overspray and helps the paint settle the way it should.

How To Reproduce This Spray Technique

1. Set Up Your Air Safety

  • Fresh air hood connected
  • Hose routed clean
  • Air scrubber running

2. Gun Setup

  • Set air pressure at the gun
  • Adjust fan pattern
  • Test spray on masking paper

3. Distance and Pace

Six to eight inches from the panel. Move at a consistent, steady pace.

4. Overlap

Apply each pass with fifty percent overlap for even coverage.

5. Keep The Gun Square

Move your body, not your wrist. No arcing or sweeping motions.

6. Commit To The Pass

Start off the panel and end off the panel. Never stop mid-pass.

Common Problems This Fixes

  • Orange Peel caused by bad distance or sloppy movement
  • Dry Spray from rushing or poor overlap
  • Fumes and Irritation eliminated by the fresh air hood
  • Fatigue reduced because you are breathing clean air
