To finish the 1969 Chevy C10 restoration, I installed a Bruce Horkey wood bed kit. The craftsmanship and quality of the kit are excellent and it gives the truck bed the classic show-quality finish these trucks deserve.

Finishing the Bed on the 1969 C10 Project

With the 1969 Chevy C10 restoration project winding down, I wanted the bed floor to be something special.

The bed is a major visual element on these trucks, so I decided to install a wood bed kit from Bruce Horkey Wood & Parts. Their kits are well known in the classic truck world for quality materials and craftsmanship.

The goal was to give the truck bed a clean, show-quality finish that really stands out.

Quality and Craftsmanship

After receiving the kit, I have to say I was impressed.

The quality of the wood and the workmanship are top notch. The parts fit well and the kit is clearly designed with restoration projects in mind.

Like most restoration parts, there is still some fine tuning required during installation. Some trimming and adjustment is necessary to get everything aligned properly, but that’s expected when fitting new parts to a classic truck.

Overall, the kit fit very well and the final result looks fantastic.

Final Finishing Steps

The next step will be sanding and refinishing the wood.

My goal is to achieve a deep, mirror-like finish on the bed floor that complements the rest of the truck. Proper sanding, sealing, and finishing will bring out the grain of the wood and complete the look of the bed.

Once that is done, the 1969 C10 project will truly be complete.

This bed installation was one of the final steps in a long restoration process. Earlier stages of the project included cab wiring, interior work, and final wheel and tire installation.

This same 1969 Chevy C10 build was later featured on LMC Truck Life in their Truck Stories section, highlighting the restoration and the journey behind it.

The bed floor is one of the most noticeable features on a classic truck. Investing in a high-quality kit and taking the time to finish it properly can completely transform the look of the truck.

Sometimes the final details are what make a restoration stand out.
